How to be a Stabilizing Force!

When society starts shaking, people respond in a few ways.

1. Some echo the vibrations.

2. Some brace themselves for impact.

3. Some become the needed stabilizing force.

Prayer and Intercession is the beginning of being a stabilizing force.

“I exhort therefore that first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men. For kings and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2

We are exhorted and encouraged to pray for our leaders and under-gird them in making decisions that affect us. Those in authority over us are placed there to ensure our protection and well-being. It doesn’t say that if we like them, we are supposed to pray for them or if we don’t like them, then we don’t have to pray for them. It is a responsibility given to every believer in Christ to pray for those in authority over us. We are not to criticize or dehumanize any leader but we are to go to our quiet place in our home where ever that may be and come to God on their behalf asking for God’s help to guide them, instruct them, and to give them strength to rightly fulfill their position of authority over us.

Prayer and intercession is not some unnoticed insignificant act. James 5:16b says, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” The word “effectual” means “successful in producing a desired or intended result.” Your prayers are effective. Now you may say that you are not a righteous person so you can’t pray. Well, that is true, no one one is righteous, there is only one and His name is Jesus Christ. But if you are ‘born again’ or if you have received Jesus Christ as your savior then His blood has made you righteous because you are in right standing with God.

If you have never received Jesus Christ as your savior, all you have to do is acknowledge that you need a savior. Only the blood of Jesus can wash away your sin and create a new heart within you. His Spirit will come in to you and give you life. Say something like, “God, I have sin in my life and I am forever separated from you. I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross and went to hell for me and that through Him I can receive forgiveness for my sins and receive eternal life. I ask you Jesus to come into my life and wash away my sins and give me a brand-new heart and a brand-new life.”

Now just talk to him during the day because he promises to never leave you. Read your Bible and get to know who He is and how to pray. You will be a Stabilizing Force in the world around you.
