You Can Be An Intercessor

An intercessor is one who comes to God on behalf of others in a heartbroken and repentant attitude, recognizing their own unworthiness and with a sense of self-denial to stand in the gap to petition God for others to be saved, healed or for whatever their need is.

An example of a scripture of an intercessor is, Ezekiel 22:30, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me for the land that I should not destroy it; but I found none.” God looks throughout the earth for someone to come to Him on behalf of their family, community, city, region, and/or nation to ask God to bring healing and restoration. An intercessor prays to seek only to know God’s will and see it fulfilled whether or not it benefits them and regardless of what it costs them. A true intercessor’s motive is love for people and to give God all the glory. Christ is the ultimate intercessor. Jesus closed the gap between us and God when He died on the cross. “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5 Because of Jesus’ mediation, we can now intercede in prayer on behalf of other believers and non-believers of Christ.

An intercessor is a person who by calling or by nature chooses to be a mediator on behalf of those who cannot intervene for themselves or to under-gird others in difficult times. An intercessor make requests, urge, plead, risk, sacrifice and makes war on issues relating to those for whom they are standing in the gap for so that God’s plans and purposes are fulfilled in other’s lives. One of the marks of an intercessor is a willingness to do something. Jesus said there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” One of the ways we do this is by praying and interceding for others lifting burdens off of them so they can come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their savior and fulfill God’s plan and destiny for them.
